Leased to a nearby nonprofit hospital for 23 years with payments invested in improvement programs for the hospital or affiliated medical practices. A foundation was created by the old hospital’s surplus funds for hospital construction or related businesses. No changes in costs or access apparent. |
Wake Medical Center Raleigh, NC |
Ownership transferred to nonprofit hospital management group with guarantee of continued indigent care. Payment not given to county, but savings from care will be used for general expenditures. Fair market value was probably not reached and access may have dropped for some patients, but quality and satisfaction remains high. |
